Claims Deadline Has Passed
The monetary claims deadline was July 19, 2021. You can no longer submit claims for past repairs or expenses. However, the Lifetime Warranty is still fully active โ if your vehicle received the KSDS software update, you are entitled to free engine repair or replacement for connecting rod bearing failures.
The Canadian settlement covers the following Kia and Hyundai vehicles equipped with a Theta II 2.0L or 2.4L GDI engine.
Short Block Assembly
Engine block, crankshaft and bearings, connecting rods and bearings, and pistons โ all covered for connecting rod bearing failures.
Long Block Assembly
Any damage to the rest of the long block assembly caused by a connecting rod bearing failure is also covered.
All Repair Costs
Parts, labour, diagnostics, and inspection costs are included. You pay nothing out of pocket for covered repairs.
Rental / Loaner Vehicle
Up to $40 CAD per day for a rental car or loaner vehicle while your engine is being repaired.
Transferable to New Owners
The Lifetime Warranty transfers fully to subsequent owners. If you bought a used vehicle, you are still covered.
The KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection Software) update must be completed at an authorized Canadian Hyundai or Kia dealership to qualify for the Lifetime Warranty. This update is free of charge. If you have not yet received it, contact your nearest dealer to schedule an appointment.
If your vehicle has 200,000+ km AND is 8+ years old, Hyundai/Kia Canada may choose to repurchase the vehicle at Canadian Black Book (CBB) wholesale value instead of replacing the engine. This is the only exception to the standard engine replacement coverage.
