Buyer protection protocol

Before You Buy a Used Kia or Hyundai

A clean dashboard and a verbal promise are not a substitute for records. Use this list before money changes hands.

  1. 01Confirm the VIN and title status
  2. 02Check all open recalls
  3. 03Ask whether the engine has been replaced
  4. 04Request campaign completion records
  5. 05Verify KSDS and software-update history
  6. 06Ask for maintenance documentation
  7. 07Inspect for knock, oil consumption, and warning lights
  8. 08Get all dealer promises in writing
  9. 09Confirm whether a salvage or rebuilt title affects coverage
  10. 10Do not rely only on a clean dashboard or verbal assurance

Claim protection guidance

Denied Because of KSDS? Review the Manufacturer Guidance.

Hyundai's April 15, 2022 T3G/TXXC/TXXI Dealer Best Practice states that the flowchart was revised to remove the KSDS prerequisite for abnormal noise or no-crank/no-start conditions related to connecting rod bearing wear or damage.

Dealer said"No KSDS means no coverage"
What to requestAsk the dealer to follow the applicable bearing-failure flow and submit Prior Approval with the required diagnostic documentation.
Escalation languagePlease provide the denial reason in writing and confirm whether Prior Approval was submitted under the correct bearing wear or damage process.

Important: This does not guarantee coverage. It supports requesting the proper bearing-inspection and Prior Approval process instead of accepting a blanket KSDS-based refusal.

Straight answers

Know what the platform can—and cannot—do.

Kia/Hyundai Vehicle Advantage helps organize questions and next steps. It does not replace official records, diagnosis, or professional advice.

Is this an official Kia or Hyundai website?

No. This is an independent consumer education and vehicle-intelligence platform.

Does a report guarantee engine replacement?

No. Eligibility and approval depend on the VIN, campaign, warranty, title, diagnosis, documentation, and manufacturer review.

Can I use this before buying a vehicle?

Yes. The platform is designed to help shoppers identify risk, request records, and ask better questions before purchase.

Can the platform analyze a denial?

Yes. Users can review denial language and generate a structured next-step or escalation response.

Does KSDS prevent engine failure?

KSDS is a detection and protection system. It does not repair existing bearing wear or mechanical damage.

Should I send my VIN by email?

No. Users should enter the VIN only into the secure vehicle-check workflow.

Does a salvage title matter?

It can. Coverage may be restricted or unavailable depending on the program, title history, and manufacturer policy.
